Protocol for precise time synchronization in networks; in TSN often used via the gPTP profile.
PTP
Precision Time Protocol
PTP stands for Precision Time Protocol and is standardized in IEEE 1588. It is used for highly accurate synchronization of distributed clocks in networks and achieves—especially with hardware timestamping—significantly higher accuracy than NTP. For automotive data logging, PTP is relevant when Ethernet-based sensors, loggers, and switches must be synchronized to a common time base.
