SAE J2534, often also called PassThru, is a standardized API between a PC application and a vehicle communication interface for diagnostics and ECU reprogramming. Originally, the focus was on emissions-relevant ECUs, but J2534 has since become a fixed component of many workshop and diagnostic workflows. Compared to the D-PDU API, J2534 is typically simpler and especially widespread in the aftermarket and OEM service environment.
