IEEE 802.1Qbv describes Enhancements for Scheduled Traffic and is the basis of the Time-Aware Shaper (TAS). In this approach, queues are opened and closed according to time control, allowing time-critical frames to be transmitted within precisely defined time windows. For deterministic in-vehicle Ethernet networks, Qbv is important because it makes guaranteed latencies and low jitter values possible for critical data streams.
